Jono’s story – sick leave

Jono is a part-time worker in a restaurant kitchen. He usually works three nights each week. Jono came down with a heavy cold and phoned his boss the day before his first shift of the week to say the doctor had told him to take the week off.  The boss thanked Jono for the early notice and said he would see him next week when he was better. Jono’s boss explained that he would still be paid for the time off as he has built up enough paid sick leave to cover his absence.

What a great boss Jono has – he really cares about his staff. Remember, full-time and part-time workers are entitled to paid sick leave.  To find out whether you are entitled to sick leave, visit www.youngpeopleatwork.nsw.gov.au
